Statewide Impact

The Nevada Policy Council on Human is Trafficking is proud of its incredibly successful record thus far. After only two legislative sessions, NPCHT has supported 10 bills that were passed and signed by the Governors.

2021 Legislative Highlights

  • AB 143 Creates an online directory of services for trafficking victims; develops a statewide plan or delivering services to trafficking victims; forms the State of Nevada Human Trafficking Coalition; designates a human trafficking specialist within the Division of Child and Family Services

  • AB 182 Extends criminal responsibility to a person who owns, leases, or operates a business or property where illegal sex work is conducted

  • AB 113 Increases the statute of limitations to six years for sex trafficking

  • AB 64 Grants the Attorney General additional authority to prosecute the facilitation of sex trafficking

  • SB 45 Requires the Ombudsmen for Victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault to assist victims of human trafficking and provide public education on human trafficking.

  • SB 164 Creates a special committee to conduct a study of sex trafficking.

  • SB 274 Licenses and certifies receiving shelters for commercially sexually exploited children.

2023 Legislative Highlights

  • AB 183: Introduced early screening and better identification mechanisms for at-risk victims by child welfare and juvenile justice entities, ensuring timely intervention and support.
  • AB 275: Prohibited the imposition of court fees on human trafficking victims for record sealing, fingerprints, or other related fines, reducing the financial burden on survivors seeking to rebuild their lives.
  • SB 389: Mandated the creation of a collaborative biennial report on human trafficking, incorporating data and policy recommendations to inform future legislative action. Additionally, this bill allocated $1 million from the state’s general fund to the Victims of Human Trafficking Fund and extended the statute of limitations for claims to 60 months.
